VillageReach’s mission is to to save lives and improve well being in developing countries by increasing last-mile access to healthcare and investing in social businesses that address gaps in health and community infrastructure.
All too frequently lifesaving vaccines and medical interventions are available in developing countries, but are unable to reach any further than the urban areas. The extraordinary resources and infrastructure needed to transport critical supplies to remote communities and safely administer them makes the cost and logistics of reaching those most in need prohibitive.
The VillageReach Model
The VillageReach model strengthens health systems in developing countries, particularly for remote, underserved communities. We partner with the Ministry of Health and other local organizations to deliver two interconnected solutions:
- A logistics platform to improve cold chain performance, delivery of vaccines and other medical commodities, and information management for health systems in rural areas. These services expand access and enable quality healthcare for remote, previously underserved communities.
-
A social enterprise platform to launch social businesses that deliver essential infrastructure services. These businesses offer services not specific to the health system, including as transportation, energy and communications. Social businesses fill gaps in a health system’s wide range of needs, lower overall cost, and contribute to rural economic development. The goal is to make systemic improvements the Ministry of Health and local communities can scale and sustain.
Our Identity
We work with governments, communities, and other key partners to extend the reach of health systems and improve the quality of services in effective and sustainable ways.
We create solutions that:
Build Local Capacity through participatory processes to improve leadership, work practices and environment, worker competencies, and community engagement;
Improve Logistics Management by streamlining planning and supply-chain systems and by supporting sound management through analytic solutions;
Fill Critical Infrastructure Gaps by establishing and supporting social enterprises to meet needs in areas such as transport, power, refrigeration, communication, and waste management;
Mobilize Communities to take greater ownership of public systems that exist to serve the community – generating a social atmosphere of higher expectations and greater accountability.
